The title is the answer to the question, “What have you been doing (that makes you feel fullfilled) recently?”
Watercolor painting does wonders to me. I’m not an expert, but I love exploring the washes and once I get new brushes to play with, I’d probably have more fun than now. Back in Instagram, I’m meeting a handful of amazing illustrators who just nails their own style. I’m looking for my own style too; it’s been a long time since I painted and used watercolor for a medium. I never knew I could play it up with pens and markers and create a rather rough, left-like-that-but-still-pretty effect. I’m feeling like a kid again, like a toddler who just picked up a slab of Crayola.
I Never Really Knew Which Is My First Love
It has always been either one of them: writing or drawing. I’m one of those students who had her notebooks filled with scribbles instead of lectures. But there came a time when I had a complete note finished with a hand-written novel, and that’s something I was really proud of. Doing either of them fulfills me at some point.
Now that I have chosen writing as my main career path, I tend to lose the sight of the shimmer as sometimes, I feel obligated to do it. Of course, that’s where I get my income. But drawing for me is fun; it’s spontaneous and unruly and sometimes, I don’t know how I’ll end up, which is quite the opposite of whipping up an article where there are guidelines and standards to follow.
I have always been the non-straight-line person. I enjoy sudden spurts, the unforeseen lifts and the revealing of the miracles during downtime. Painting is like that. It’s unpredictable.
The State Of The Stationery
Making art is a great break from writing (which is also another way of making art, but my brain now categorizes it as “work”). I guess I need those tender drawing discoveries to free my mind from its habitual word hoarding and start thinking out of the lines.
Right now, I’m running out of acid-free paper. I’m excited to see what these hands are going to come up with! I’m thinking of cards, mini posters and customized framed prints for my loved ones! Once I discover my own style flow, perhaps I can share it with you. There’s more than a handful of people I’d love to send postcards to!
